NEC Strengthens Power Grid and Advocates State Policing Reforms

The National Economic Council (NEC) has announced strategic measures to prevent grid collapses and ensure energy accessibility across Nigeria. Vice President Kashim Shettima emphasized electricity's pivotal role in driving economic growth during the council’s 146th meeting. NEC formed a committee led by Governor Bassey Otu to deepen state-level participation in the National Electrification Strategy. Additionally, NEC explored the integration of state policing to enhance security nationwide. Members agreed on empowering states under the Electricity Reform Act 2023, ensuring each region addresses its unique energy and security needs. The council’s resolutions reaffirm the government’s commitment to sustainable development and national safety.
