By Admin UserJune 25, 2026
President Bola Tinubu has formally requested the Senate to confirm Lieutenant General Olufemi Olatubosun Oluyede as the substantive Chief of Army Staff. This move highlights the President's commitment to reinforcing the military's leadership with seasoned and competent officers. In a letter also sent to the House of Representatives, Tinubu expressed confidence in Oluyede’s capability to ensure the army remains steadfast in protecting national stability and security. Oluyede, previously the Commander of the Infantry Corps, was appointed Acting Chief of Army Staff on October 30, following the illness and subsequent passing of General Taoreed Lagbaja. Tinubu's choice underscores his focus on professionalism and strategic leadership in addressing Nigeria’s security challenges. His selection aligns with constitutional provisions, ensuring robust oversight in the military hierarchy.
